Greg Girard was born in 1955 in Canada. In 1986 he began his photographic career at AsiaWeek in Hong Kong, widely covering news and features. Represented by Contact Press Images since 1990, his images have appeared in Newsweek, Fortune, Business Week, Time, and many other magazines. With Ian Lambot he is the author of City of Darkness, about the final years of Kowloon's infamous "Walled City," a multi-highrise super-structure, home to 35,000 people, that was razed in 1993. After travelling around Asia, he moved back to Hong Kong where he continued to work through the handover to China. He is now based in Shanghai.
